Sawara Old Town

Sawara (佐原) is an old traditional town located in Chiba Prefecture. If you want to feel the atmosphere of old Tokyo, visit Sawara! This town resembles "Edo" (old name of Tokyo) of several hundreds years ago. Also, their traditional festival is more than 300 years old. This festival was inscribed on the UNESCO intangible heritage list in 2016.

Experience the Traditional festival (Only in July and October)

In Sawara, the big float festival has lasted for more than 300 years! This festival is one of the three major float festivals in Kanto area. Also, it was inscribed on the list of the UNESCO intangible heritage in 2016. 

Local Sake Tasting

"Toukun" sake brewery was founded 200 years ago. The local owner will show you inside the brewery and you can taste different types of sake. 

Bike tour along Tone river

Tone river (利根川) is the biggest river in Japan. After cycling along the river, you will visit one of the oldest shrines in Japan called Katori Jingu (香取神宮). It is said that the shrine was built more than 2000 years ago.
